Nanobrick will provide an anti-counterfeiting nanomaterials
technology for the upcoming 2016 Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), the company said
Sunday.
The Seoul-based startup said the technology, named
"M-Tag," has been chosen as the official product certification
measure to guarantee safety and sanitation of all foods, drinks and daily
necessities for the heads of 53 countries participating in the international
meeting scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, in July.
"It is an honor that the technology we have
developed has been officially chosen for the global summit," Nanobrick CEO
James Joo said. "We expect that Korea's cutting-edge anti-counterfeiting
nanotechnology will contribute to the Mongolian government's efforts to make
ASEM safer and more valuable."
The ASEM organizing committee said earlier that it
would introduce a system called "ASEM-Tag" for the event to verify
all foods, drinks and daily necessities provided by over 150 companies, as fake
products are increasingly threatening health and security globally.
"We have chosen ASEM-Tag, developed using
Korea's nanomaterial technology, for the sanitation and security of
participants at ASEM 2016 based on the opinions of experts who reviewed the
technology," said Batbattar Daadankhuu, president of Mongolian NGO MOSHEA,
which has been charged by the Mongolian government with the selection and
operation of the anti-counterfeiting system at the event.
"I believe ASEM-Tag can also be used for
other international events," he said.
Nanobrick said the ASEM-Tag system combines a
nanotechnology that detects forged products by changing color based on a
magnetic reaction to information and communication technology.
The company said its M-Tag technology has been
developed on the back of government subsidies and private investment over the
last seven years.
"We believe that the adoption of our
technology at ASEM 2016 will set an example of exporting Korea's leading
technologies overseas," Joo said.
